A little bit about me
For those of you that are new to ICS, my name is Stacy Jones and this is my nineteenth year teaching middle school science at ICS. I have always enjoyed science and I am looking forward to sharing the marvels of science with you this year.
I grew up in Whitehouse, NJ and have been involved in science in one form or another for nearly forty years, but not always as a teacher. I graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS degree in Biology with a Microbiology option. I then received an MS degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I came back home to New Jersey after graduating from UNC and worked for almost 10 years at a biotech company. While there, I worked on the research and development of a product designed to detect colorectal cancer in its early stages. I took a hiatus from working outside of the home after Mr. Jones and I had our two daughters, Lauren and Becky. They are both alumni of ICS; Lauren went on to graduate with a BS degree in English from Cornell University and a Master's Degree in MAT from Mount Holyoke College. She is currently a high school English teacher in Boston. Becky graduated from Lehigh University with a BS degree in Biology and is working at a biopharmaceutical company in Massachusetts.
When I started back to work after being home, I decided to use my science background to teach children. When younger, I had often thought about being a teacher but wanted to do hands on science. After having my daughters, I realized that I enjoyed teaching them new things and seeing their excitement when they learned something new. I decided it was time to go back to the idea of being a teacher, so I returned to school. After obtaining my teaching certificates in Elementary Education and Biology I started working at ICS, and the rest as they say, is history.
I look forward to seeing our returning students and meeting our new students this fall. I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing summer, and that you act like a scientist and ask "why?" Why does a hot air balloon rise? Why do plants make flowers? Why does the pool water feel warmer at night than during the day? Why does the ocean have waves? Why do lightning bugs light up? Come to school with your curiosity and questions.
This year I will only be teaching 7th grade science because I will also be continuing my role as Academic Coordinator for ICS.
